Class DoJo – Transform Your Classroom Culture

Class DoJo is a FREE real-time web 2.0 classroom management tool that helps teachers monitor and gather data on behaviors or attributes that are occurring in the classroom (or any setting, for that matter).  In my district, several teachers are using this and loving what it has done to help set classroom and individual goals.  It has significantly improved on classroom climate and behavior.  It’s not about class ‘management’ but class culture and goal setting.  You can use the pre-defined attributes or create and edit your own.

As students are working away, ClassDoJo is displayed on a projector or interactive board (although not required) and students watch as they earn positive and/or negative points for those behaviors.  A teacher can choose to show only the positives, only the negatives or both..or none.  You can download the free mobile app to your smartphone as well so that you can roam around the classroom and quietly gather the data.  How cool is that!?!

The data that is easily gathered and represented in visual ways, can be sent home to parents if you want, but it’s the fact that kids can see how they are progressing as they watch the points being awarded in real-time that is transforming classrooms.  Students are rising to the posted expectations and NOT viewing this as embarrassing or competitive. To be truly successful (for the right reasons), the teacher has to frame the use of this tool carefully and with the right end-goals in mind.

This award-winning tool has only been in existence since last September!  The small staff includes former classroom teachers – those who really understand what teachers and students need in order to create a positive and supportive learning environment for all.  The folks at ClassDoJo truly listen to feedback from educators and are in the process of making many improvements due to this input. You really need to try out this tool…!!!

As an administrator, I can track classrom behavior in all my classrooms. Students can also earn positive points for rewards from me. I shared this website with my classroom teachers and they love it. Thank you.

Very interesting! I would not have thought to put this in the hands of administration but what a powerful tool this must be for you! And I especially applaud your modeling for and sharing technology with your staff!
