Back to School with the DEN & PhotoPeach

It’s August and August brings a range of emotions for those in education.  Educators across the country are getting that strange feeling in their stomach this time of year.  For some, it’s an eager feeling of excitement because the new school year is starting.  For others, it’s a different feeling because their summer break is over and it’s back to the fun and chaos of school.  For all, it’s a thrilling, busy time of the year.  There’s a lot to do this time of year, from prepping for a new class of students to preparing the classroom to create the best learning environment to getting lesson plans ready to go.  For experienced teachers, this process might be a little easier because of the years of experience gathering tips and tricks.  For new teachers, these back to school tips aren’t so abundant.

That’s where the DEN comes in.  August is also Connected Educator Month and the Discovery Educator Network is one of the best connected communities.  The DEN is an incredible sharing community and we are looking to you to share your knowledge.

We are announcing a Back to School promotion with our friends at PhotoPeach that starts today and ends August 24th September 30th.  PhotoPeach is a free web 2.0 tool that allows users to create slideshows, presentations, and quizzes using still images, music, and text.  If you participate in our promotion, you could get a one year PhotoPeach premium subscription! For this promotion, we are collecting your favorite back to school tips to create the best database that can be shared with educators across the world.  We’ll be sharing the tips and tricks submitted via blog posts and our social media channels over the next several weeks.  Here are the details:

Your tip(s) should fall into one of three categories:

  • Getting Ready – these are ideas to do before school starts
  • The First Day – ideas for the first day of school, ideas for the teacher as well as things to do with students on the first day
  • Settling In – getting routines established, communication with parents, etc. things to do during the first few weeks

The first 350 DEN members who submit a tip will receive a FREE one year PhotoPeach Premium Subscription.

Enter your tip(s) in the form below.  Make sure to scroll to the bottom of the form to submit your entry.

Photopeach is quick and easy way to engage students and prep them for a new unit.

In my form submission, I forgot to mention that I sometimes show them a Photo peach movie of the assignments and activities that other students have completed in class.
