Teachers, Social Networks, and the DEN

Last week, an interesting article about educators and social networks appeared in Education Week. The article mentions “A Survey of K-12 Educators on Social Networking, Online Communities, and Web 2.0 Tools 2012” that was conducted and analyzed by MMS Education, a marketing company based in Newtown, Pa., and sponsored by edWeb, a professional social network for educators, and MCH Strategic Data. There were 694 respondents. The results are rather interesting and I encourage you to take a look.

After taking a look through the article, there was one educator community that had the highest membership of those surveyed. Do you want to take a guess at which one? It was the Discovery Educator Network, the DEN! Of the almost 700 respondents, over 50% said they were DEN members. These results are great and not only shows the value of the DEN, but also confirms that the members make this one of the best educational communities in the world!
