Fun Fact Friday: The Capybara

Did you know that the capybara is the largest rodent in the world? Capybaras live in South America. They have webbed feet and are excellent swimmers. On land, they can run as fast as a horse, but they can weigh up to 150 pounds. They are social animals, and tend to stay in groups. Capybaras are herbivores, but are very picky about what they like to eat. They can stay submerged for long periods, and are also capable of sleeping in water, though not completely submerged.

Capybaras are gentle animals, can be hand fed, and are sometimes kept as pets. They are commonly seen in zoos, and can live over ten years in captivity.
