NC DEN STAR Spotlight

Where do you teach?

Thomasville Middle School

What do you teach?

ESOL-6th to 8th Grade

When did you become a DEN member?

March 2008

What’s your favorite thing about being a DEN member?

My favorite thing about the DEN is being able to share with teachers. Also, I love participating on the online conferences on Saturdays. I love the videos, pictures, sounds, etc. that Discovery provides for our use in our classrooms, as well the science tech book. Since I became a STAR educator, I have been sharing with teachers in my school district all the technology which I have learned through the online conferences that I have attended. This helped me became twice the District Technology Teacher of the Year in 2009 and 2011. I had the opportunity to be part of the NCDEN last year and also this year. I am preparing a small conference to spread the word about the DEN and how to become a STAR educator. In the past, I have shared with small groups, but I want to have a big event in April. I appreciate all the hard work of Steve and all the groups  at Discovery for taking their time on Saturdays to help us, otherwise, it will be impossible to learn and share with other teachers. I also participated with Kelly Hines in Charlotte, Cherokee and Greensboro and always there are so many things that I learned from Kelly.

What’s your teaching super power?

My teaching super power is using technology to empower my ESOL and help them 24 hours, 7 days a week.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you be? Why?

If I could be any fictional character, I would be Superwoman. I guess the reason is because I would like to be able to help everyone.
