STARs in the News: Anthony Grisillo

mr._g_final_headshotPennsylvania DEN STAR Anthony Grisillo was recently named  2014 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year during a Keystone Awards of Excellence event in Hershey, PA.  An educator in the Rose Tree Media School District, Anthony teaches students in the district’s Academically Gifted Program at both Glenwood and Media elementary schools.

One fun aspect of the awards celebration was the fact that students gave the speeches about the 12 finalists.  Student James Riley McGowan introduced Grisillo. McGowan was unable to make it to Hershey because of Sunday’s snowstorm, but gave his speech via Skype.  Ah, the wonders of technology!

McGowan, a middle school student, had Grisillo as his teacher in fourth and fifth grades at Rose Tree Elementary School. He had asked some of Mr. Grisillo’s past students to pick one word to describe Grisillo. Among the words they came up with were creative, hilarious, humorous, amazing, extraordinary, fun and inspirational. McGowan said everyone enjoyed Grisillo’s way of teaching.

I have a feeling that hearing those words from former students was more rewarding than anything Anthony could imagine.  The impact he’s had on his students is wonderful.

Here is the full article about his award.  Congratulations!
