Joy of Reading

The Joy of Reading is a series of three editable video within Streaming Plus. Each are about 20 minutes long and are a great resource for both teachers and parents. There is a teacher’s guide available which has classroom activities, parents letters, checklist and ways to get parents involved with home reading. This a appropriate for K-2 and published by Little Planet Learning in 2003.

Level One : This series uses lively artwork to tell the story of five intergalactic visitors come to Earth to learn to read. They discover that learning to read doesn’t start of the end of the school day, as they continue learning at home with the support and involvement of parents. They discover words can be found everywhere – field trips, rhyming games and other vocabulary-related activities.

Level Two:  The program explains that good readers have a reading partner who helps them read books, learn new vocabulary words, and answers their questions.

Level Three : The program explains that more advanced readers should begin reading books on their own, but a reading partner can still help them learn new words and ideas.

Read with Biff, Chip and Kipper is the UK’s favorite home reading series. The highly successful Oxford Reading Tree reading scheme is used in 80% of UK primary schools. It has been developed by leading educational experts.
