This week’s event comes from Turner Creek Year Round School. Wanda Hanley and Erin Pretlor shared their engaging ideas for kicking- off a staff training session.
“What could be more engaging than a classic game, like Jenga? Our Jenga pieces were numbered and matched a question that staff members would answer to share their thoughts on literacy, technology, and teaching strategies. Our purpose was to get teachers talking about their successes, challenges, fears and to allow time for reflective thinking on our teaching. Questions such as, “How might your assumptions about using technology in the classroom influence your thinking about Discovery Ed training sessions?” gave teachers the opportunity to be honest about their mindset in a safe, supportive environment. The end result included a room full of professionals having thoughtful discussions about teaching practices, strategies, and how to best reach our students.” You can view the entire list of Jenga questions here. What creative ways have you sparked conversation with your staff? Share your ideas in the comments below.
