Larger parrots have a tendency to live much longer than the average bird. Some species of parrot, such as the macaw, have an average lifespan of 60 years in the wild. There have been reports of parrots living as long as 80 to 100 years! The Guiness Book of World Records says that the world’s oldest known living parrot is Cookie, a Major Mitchell’s cockatoo that lives in the Brookfield Zoo, in Illinois.
