If you noticed Discovery airing programing like Schindler’s List and other holocaust related content over the past week, it’s no coincidence. Today Discovery Communications is honoring International Holocaust Remembrance Day – which this year marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
Last week, Joe posted a number of resources for teaching about the Holocaust. In addition to the tremendous content that is available for the Discovery Education Community, you can also follow STAR Discovery Educator Karen Wells on her journey to Auschwitz.
Karen was selected as one of 25 teachers to participate Auschwitz 70: The Past is Present professional development program. You can learn more about the program, and sign up for a free, live Virtual Field Trip happening later this spring by going to http://www.pastispresentauschwitz.com/
Karen is document her journey and sharing images of her experiences on her blog http://karenwellspastispresent.blogspot.com/ I encourage you to follow Karen, congratulate her, and learn alongside her as she continues to share the impact of this monumental experience. From meeting holocaust survivors to sharing her passion for teaching and learning with Stephen Spielberg, it’s been quite a trip!
