Alaska is the largest state in the US, with the longest coastline. Alaska’s coastline is longer than every other state in the US combined! According to Wikipedia, it is technically both the westernmost and easternmost state in the United States, as well as also being the northernmost. Also, Alaska is the world’s largest wildlife refuge, at 16 million acres!
William H. Seward, the U.S. Secretary of State, negotiated the Alaska Purchase, which was mocked as “Seward’s Folly”. Of course, Seward’s purchase was later revealed to be the deal of a lifetime, due to Alaska being rich in natural resources.
