Discovery Education and Science Channel’s Support Our Science Initiative

Last week, Discovery Education and Science Channel hosted two interactive STEM assemblies in Houston area schools as part of the Support Our Science (S.O.S) initiative, an ongoing effort to ignite students’ curiosity while providing educators with the means to build skills and knowledge in STEM. We were joined by special guest Dr. Hakeem Oluseyi, astrophysicist and star of Science Channel’s Outrageous Acts of Science, who spoke to students about the importance of STEM education.

On Wednesday, we visited Houston ISD to kick off a one-year, customized STEM education program to support Sherman Elementary School’s teachers and engage students in the power of STEM. On Thursday, we visited Alvin ISD to present a $10,000 check and celebrate their teacher Deborah O’Sullivan who was recently named the winner of the national SOS Sweepstakes.

At both events, Patti Duncan was the star of the show and captivated Alvin and Houston students with her interactive STEM presentation. One representative from Alvin ISD told DE representatives – “this is a day that our students will never forget!”
