Victoria is a Gifted Education Specialist in Baldwin County, Alabama. She has been using Discovery Education for a couple of years and shared “It has made a positive impact on my teaching and my students learning.” Keep reading to learn more about Victoria and her life outside of the classroom.
How do you start your day?
I start my day by having “ME” time! I relax a bit before I walk (sometimes with my Boxer). Exercising before I go to school helps me have a clear mind and it’s a great beginning to my day.
Why did you become a teacher?
I became a teacher to make a difference in the lives of children and to help them have a LOVE for reading
What is one of your favorite ways to use Discovery Education?
SOS has been a great resource. My students really enjoy Two Truths & a Lie….
What is a ritual you have in your classroom?
Wacky Wednesday – We always do a fun community building activity (example: I pass a ball that expands or retracts to be big or small and students tell me something “big” or “small” that is on their mind that day. Friday Fun – Creative Learning Games!
How are you involved in education aside from your role as educator?
I am a member of the Masters & Mentors at the Gulf Coast Center for Holocaust & Human Rights Education. I am a part of the Council for Exceptional Children. I work as a Camp Counselor at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab.
I work with Student Ambassadors during the school year and then travel Internationally with them during the Summer.
What advice do you give to a teacher who is hesitant to use digital media in their classroom?
You need to “jump in with both feet”. The more confident you are, the easier the transition will be for you in the classroom. It’s a great way to get and keep students’ attention.
What advice do you have for first year teachers?
Do not be afraid to try anything. Set a positive but firm tone for great classroom management day one!

When I am not working, you can find me traveling, at the beach, and/or spending time with my family.
