For more than a decade now, Discovery Education has been committed to supporting opportunities for the amazing educators who use Discovery Education resources to connect both virtually and in person. We understand the role vibrant professional learning communities play in supporting educators. We know that educators’ most valuable resource is each other, and we are here to help you make those connections. One of the ways we do that is through the annual DEN Summer Institute (DENSI). This week-long, residential-style event focuses on professional learning on how to integrate new strategies and resources into your practice, leadership strategies, and networking opportunities.
DENSI 2016 will be held July 17 – 22 in Chicago, IL and will feature a number of seminars and workshops from keynote speakers, the Discovery Education team, and Discovery Education Community members that will energize your teaching and learning. In addition, DENSI will provide opportunities for you to connect, collaborate, and share resources, ideas, and strategies for integrating the latest technologies and digital content into instruction.
Previous attendees call DENSI “the best professional development” they’ve ever experienced. We know you’ll agree. You must have a ton of questions. If you’re the kind of person who wants the details right away, check them out on the DENSI FAQ. We’ll wait.
Upon completing the DEN Summer Institute, you’ll return to your local communities prepared to share new strategies and techniques for integrating digital resources into curriculum and instruction with peers across your school system and around the world.
If you are passionate about using Discovery Education in your classroom, school, or district we’d like to invite you to apply to the DEN Summer Institute. To attend, you’ll need to be a STAR Discovery Educator. Not yet a STAR? We’ll help you!
There are two portions on this year’s application:
Part 1: The Written Portion
Please answer the questions thoughtfully. This will help us learn more about you as an educator. We want to know how you’re using Discovery Education in your classroom, school, or district. We’ll also ask you to think about how you will commit to sharing what you learn. If you’ve been to DENSI previously, we’ll ask you how you have stayed active.
Part 2: The Video Submission
This two-minute or less video should be of you sharing a little about yourself and your experiences transforming teaching and learning.
Create a video that shows:
1. who you are and what you do professionally
2. something about you and your life outside of work
3. a joyful moment when you experienced/observed teaching and learning transformed
We’re looking for folks who want to learn with other people who want to learn. Attendees of DENSI are committed to lifelong learning, use Discovery Education resources on the regular, and have a spirit for sharing what they’ve learned. For those who are accepted, we’ll cover the costs of the event. You just have to get yourself to us.
