Alfred is a school library media specialist for grades 1- 3 in East Ramapo, NY. He has been using Discovery Education for just over a year. The students are very enthusiastic and exciting when watching the videos and using the SOS.”
What is a ritual you have in your classroom?
Every class period starts with checking in the books. Then I go over the learning target and explain it. Then we watch the video on discovery education followed by the lesson I am teaching that day. Finally while the students are working on an activity I have them get books and check them out. It sets a routine for the students so that they know what to expect when they walk into the library.
What is your most memorable experience with the DEN?
Attending DENSI 2015 in Washington, DC
Why did you become a teacher?
I always knew from the age of five that I was meant to be a teacher. I always focused on my studies as a child and a young adult.
When you’re not working where are we most likely to find you?
If I am not at school I can be found at a coffee shop, the Disney Store, the theater, the bookstore or the mall. If on vacation I can be found at Disney World or Disneyland.
What’s something new that you’ve recently learned?
I have learned from Walt Disney “If you can dream it, You can do it.” I live by this quote personally and professionally. I think if you have a positive outlook you will affect your students to strive and be better.
What’s your favorite SOS to use with students?
What are you reading or something on your to-read list?
On my reading list: Mindset, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Old School, and Hard Choices.
What brings you joy?
Anything Disney brings me joy. Also teaching, books, and my students bring me much joy.
