Go inside the U.S. State Department with Discovery Education, and meet some of the world’s greatest thinkers as they envision plans to help save our ocean.
“Of the People: Protecting Our Ocean” is Discovery Education’s latest virtual field trip. On Sept. 14, we will take viewers to Washington D.C., where leaders at the State Department are about to embark on the third-annual Our Ocean Conference, hosted by Secretary of State John Kerry. The conference is a melting pot of experts and interested parties who are concerned about the future of the world’s largest ecosystem — a shared resource brimming with life, yet constantly under threat.
The Our Ocean conference is not just about discussing the problems — it’s about charting a course for the future and pledging to take action. Participants will band together to envision solutions for pollution, illegal fishing, climate change and making the economy and ocean conservation work together. They will take actions to protect the ecosystem and empower a new generation to lead the way toward a healthy and sustainable ocean.
“It’s pretty simple — protecting our ocean is not just about saving pretty places,” said Cathy Novelli, Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, “it’s about global food security, renewable energy and energy security, economic and national security and overall stability for nations around the world.”
