Five Reasons Why I Recommend Financial Pur$uit by TGR EDU: Explore

I recently had the opportunity to complete the Financial Pursuit self-paced module by TGR EDU: Explore, and these are some of the reasons why I think you should bring it into your classroom.

1) Flexibility of Use:

Geared for students in grades 9-12, this module can be utilized in a variety of ways. The flexibility makes it so adaptable to any classroom. It can be completed independently in class, as an out-of-class activity, in small groups or at centers, or in a large group that is led by the teacher. The lesson really accommodates a variety of learning modalities. I love the educator tips and feedback strategies that are provided in the educator guide. They are great resources to help you get students thinking about this journey.

2) Detail on a Wide Variety of Topics:

By participating in 10 unique challenges, you learn about the true cost of college, the financial aid process, how to compare financial aid packages, and the power of scholarships to name a few! Each challenge not only takes you through the process, it also includes self-guided pre-assessments, key vocabulary and an opportunity for students to showcase their understanding.

3) Relatability:

These thought-provoking challenges provide an opportunity to understand real life concepts that students will encounter. The modules are visually appealing and include videos, graphics, and facts that are designed to help build confidence. They even include advice from students who have gone through the process and have graduated college or are in college making the information current and relatable. Students always love hearing from other students.

4) Family Connections:

While completing the modules and challenges, I had forgotten how complicated the process can be. Learning about Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the CSS Profile can be daunting topics for anyone, let alone someone in high school. Not only are the modules informative, but they would be great to experience and explore as a family. To have some talking points to start the conversation with your parents is huge!

5) Actionable Next Steps:

Near the end of the module, you are provided a financial aid plan, in the form of a comprehensive checklist, which gives some specifics items that students and parents should discuss when thinking about college costs. What a great way to learn about the process and begin formulating questions. It gives the students and parents an invaluable opportunity to go through something together, and begin the conversation of making college costs a reality.

Upon completion, students earn an awesome certificate. If you haven’t had an opportunity to check out this great resource, I would highly recommend doing so today!
