Some of our instructional strategies from the Spotlight on Strategies series work particularly well on April Fools Day. Try one of these for maximum silliness and surprise.

  • 3 Truths… 1 Lie (Canadian Version): Great for a Gotcha! moment, this strategy requires students to try to trick one another into believing the lie among the truths.
  • Half the Story (Canadian Version): Great for surprising endings, this strategy uses images to encourage students to process information. Select an image and zoom in until it’s not obvious what is represented and have students try to figure it out.
  • They Said What?!? (Canadian Version): Great for students to demonstrate understanding. Turn this strategy on its head for April Fools Day by having students create dialogue that doesn’t make sense and checking whether other students can explain why.
