#CelebrateWithDE: April Fools Day

April Fools Day is here and it’s always a challenge to celebrate this tricky day with students. This year, we’re encouraging you to focus on education as a means to keep oneself from getting fooled! Take a look at some of our series that delve into myths, stunts, and legends and choose a few to debunk in your classroom. Then, honor the spirit of fun in April Fools Day by applying the instructional strategy MythBustin’ to see how much your students have learned from the tales you chose to test.

A Strategy Fit for April Fools Day

It happens to the best of us, we get fooled. Teach students that there are ways to apply critical thinking to new information that can help them determine what may be a trick. SOS: MythBustin’ is a teaching strategy that mimics the scientific inquiry model used on the popular television show MythBusters (see above.) Students consider statements provided by the teacher and engage in research that helps them determine whether the statements are fact or fiction.
