Level-Up Summer Learning for Students and Teachers with Hands-On STEM Activities and Professional Development Resources from Siemens STEM Day

As summer approaches, many families are in search of supplemental virtual resources to support continued learning over the summer. Likewise, many educators are faced with the need to adjust their professional development plans for the summer to more virtual experiences.  Siemens STEM Day, developed in partnership with The Siemens Foundation, can help with both!

An Extensive Library of Standards-Aligned Activities

If you are looking for hands-on STEM activities for students in K-12 in science, technology, engineering, math, healthcare, energy or IT, the Siemens STEM Day activity database has you covered, with more than 160 STEM activities. The database is organized by category, career path and grade level, providing easy access for teachers, summer camp leaders, parents and even students to find fun grab-and-go activities. Search results can also be sorted by difficulty, most downloaded and newest, as the library is updated on an ongoing basis.  Each downloadable activity features complete instructions, a materials list, objectives, and connections to extend the learning experience.

Students can also explore a series of career profile videos to learn more about rapidly expanding STEM careers. In each video, Siemens employees provide a first-hand overview of the skills, interests and ambitions that led them to the careers they enjoy today!

STEM Instructional Resources for All

Specifically targeted to instructional leaders of any kind in search of a boost for their STEM lessons, Siemens STEM Day offers digestible five-minute refreshers to support implementation of the hands-on activities. The downloadable presentations provide a complete overview of the key learnings associated with each and activity, providing educators with a new perspective with which to engage students.

The Train the Trainer Toolkit empowers instructional leaders to support others in their efforts to implement the activities.  The toolkit reinforces the fact that educators, parents, and after-school instructors do not need to be STEM experts in order to to inspire students.  Through the video and training guide, leaders can see how easy it is to put the Siemens STEM Day resources to work in communities around the country. Ideas on how to organize multiple activities in a series, best practices for inserting real-life connections with the activity concepts and general guidelines for leading kids through a learning experience can all be found in this comprehensive toolkit!
