Hi everyone! My name is Tess Henkel and I’m a content manager here at Discovery Education. We hope you have a safe and happy Thanksgiving, however you’re celebrating this week.
Since it is a holiday week, we wanted to keep this short and sweet but also make sure you knew about new content added to Discovery Education Experience. You can explore resources that highlight the evolving values, customs and new interpretations of this holiday in the Thanksgiving channel in Discovery Education Experience.
Also, in honor of November being National Native American Heritage Month, we’ve curated a new channel with an array of k-12 resources that celebrate Native Americans’ rich history, traditions, and cultural evolution up to modern times. The collection showcases Native American successes as activists, innovators, and leaders who continue to instill positive changes in their communities.
Explore videos like our Hidden Figuras: Mary Golda Ross, who was the great-great granddaughter of a Cherokee Chief. She was also the first Native American engineer in the United States. Play the North American First Nations Audiobooks that highlight the rich Native American cultural diversity and traditions through music. Or learn about the history and legacy of indigenous cultures in North America.
It’s absolutely critical that we help educate students about other cultures to make the world more inclusive and accepting. We hope that you’ll explore these valuable resources and open your students’ eyes to the many wonderful histories and traditions around them. Have a great holiday weekend and we’ll see you next week!
