Pattie Morton – Chair
Douglas County Schools
Pattie has an undergraduate degree in Middle Grades from Georgia State University. She earned a Masters in Media and a Specialist’s Degree in Media and Instructional Technology both from the University of West Georgia. She taught middle grades social studies for 14 years before becoming a Media Specialist. She has spent the last eight years in the Media Center. She was named Media Specialist of the Year for Douglas County in 2008 and was the West Metro Regional Media Specialist of the Year in 2008 as well.
Currently, Pattie enjoys teaching students and teachers how to utilize technology in their projects and lessons. She also teaches Staff Development classes for technology in her county. She enjoys using the Discovery Educator Network and the Georgia Public Broadcasting resources with students and teachers. She is currently a STAR Discovery Educator. Her main goals are to teach teachers how to incorporate technology more effectively into their lessons and to teach her elementary students the basics of using technology in their projects. She is very excited about being a part of the DEN and collaborating with everyone!
Patti Grammens – Events Coordinator
Forsyth County Schools
Patti teaches 6th and 8th grade gifted science at Lakeside Middle School in Forsyth County. She has a Masters degree in middle grades science. She coaches the Lakeside Science Olympiad team and conducts science club meetings. Patti is a Star Discovery Educator. She also leads a Texas Instruments discussion group in Forsyth County for educators, as well as reviews articles for Science Scope and Corwin Press. ?
Patti is married and has two children – both of whom are in college. She enjoys traveling with her husband.
Monique Liles – Blog Coordinator
Clayton County Schools
Monique teaches special education students with emotional and behavioral disorders. She has taught for five years in Clayton County Schools and the South Metro GNETS program. This school year she is teaching 5th grade with the South Metro Program at Hamilton E. Holmes Elementary in East Point, GA. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Spelman College, a JD from Tulane Law School, a Masters in Cognitive Science and Instructional Leadership (NSU), and a Masters in Education Media Design and Technology from Full Sail University.
Monique is currently the Georgia DEN LC Blog Coordinator, and a Star Discovery Educator. In addition, she is the Technology/Communications Coordinator for the Georgia Council for History Education (GCHE), and the President of NARENGA, the Georgia chapter of the National At-Risk Education Network, and the Geography Consultant for the Carter Center Library and Museum. She facilitated standards based classroom training for South Metro Program teachers, and has been the recipient of several grants, including the Honeywell Space Academy for Educators Grant. She loves teaching and learning, and has participated in several professional learning programs, including the Transformation of America Teaching American History Grant, and the Math – Science Partnership Grant (MSP) with Clayton County Public Schools.
Her goals are to inspire educators to understand and engage special education and at-risk students, and to make learning a fun and meaningful experience for all students. She also hopes to facilitate increased access to technology and media education for all students regardless of socioeconomic status, and to help close the digital divide. Monique loves using the Discovery Educator Network and Georgia Public Broadcasting resources, and spreading the word about how these resources can assist with reaching all learning styles in the classroom.
Patrice Weaver is the Operations Manger at Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB), and an invaluable member of the GA DEN LC. GPB sponsors the Discovery Education Network and resources so that they are free to Georgia educators. Visit the GPB Education site.
Fulton County Schools

Kara?Leonard – Events Team
Murray County Schools
Kara has a Bachelors Degree in Social Science Education at North Georgia College and State University, a Masters Degree in Administration and Leadership in Education and a Specialist Degree in Curriculum. She taught history at Murray County High School and is currently an Instructional Technology Specialist at the district level in Murray County. During her second year of teaching, she was awarded the Murray County High School Teacher of the Year and was also named the Murray County School District Teacher of Year. She was also named the Impact Person of the Year during the same year.
Kara’s goal is to help inspire teachers to reach students in new and fun ways while using some type of technology. Kara continues to train teachers, instructional technologists and media Specialists at conferences and training sessions in order to inspire and help teachers integrate technology in the classroom. Kara is currently a Star Discovery Educator and loves to use Unitedstreaming and Georgia Public Broadcasting resources. She is very excited about collaborating with DEN members!
Helen Maddox – Events Team; Blog Team
Paulding County School System
Helen has a undergraduate Bachelors of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Computer Information Systems from Georgia State University. After graduating in 1985 she worked for Ernst & Young for 10 years as a Network Analyst. Her duties included installing the first Local Area Network in the Atlanta Office and installing networks in all offices in the S. E. Region. She left Ernst & Young and had her own I.T. Consulting business for 8 years serving small sized businesses.
In 2000, Helen found out that her local school system was adding Technology positions, applied, and was hired as a Technology Support Specialist with the Paulding County School System. Helen provide’s Instructional technology & technology support at the school and county level. Some of her accomplishments include:
