Check out this fun throwback to when it all started and see how far we’ve come. Then continue on to see some exciting new learning resources coming your way.
We’re proud to introduce DE Originals! In addition to vetting the best educational content out there and regularly introducing new learning resources for both teachers and students, we produce our own video content, too.
DE Originals is a new collection of kid-approved, standards-aligned videos that ignites curiosity in students, encourages them to solve real-world problems, and gives them the opportunity to see themselves as part of the story through engaging narratives.
The first original series in the DE Originals collection is our thought-provoking DEmystified series. Explore super fun, phenomena-based videos that dive into complex science concepts and topics and take your students on a journey to DEmystify the wonders of our world.
To save you time and effort in lesson planning, we’re continuing to grow our collection of 2,000+ ready-to-use activities. From Background Builders to Daily Fix-Its and Choice Boards, these lesson activities are grouped into monthly calendars for grades K-8 to deliver timely, relevant learning opportunities that teachers can quickly access daily. Get started today with the February calendars for K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. And for grades 9-12, explore the By Subject Channel for the best DE content for all subject areas.
Celebrate Inventors Day on February 22 by encouraging students to enter the 3M Young Scientist Challenge! The 3M Young Scientist Challenge is the nation’s premier science competition for grades 5-8. This one-of-a-kind video competition has sparked a sense of wonder and discovery in hundreds of thousands of students while enhancing science, innovation, and communication across the US.
When first launched by Discovery Communications in 1999, the Young Scientist Challenge had the same mission it does today: to foster a new generation of American scientists! In 2008, Discovery Education joined forces with 3M—one of the world’s most notable innovators—to cultivate the next generation of problem solvers and give students the unique opportunity to chase their passions and work directly with 3M scientists. Select Learn More below to apply, then see past winners and explore more learning resources in the Young Scientist Lab.
Immerse students in the living, breathing process of democracy with a virtual celebration of America’s unique history of civic engagement and give them the tools to develop their civic voice in everyday life. Join the American Ideals Virtual Field Trip on February 17 to get a look inside the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and show students how leadership, communication, and informed action unite people for the greater good.
This Virtual Field Trip is available through our partnership with the Reagan Foundation and our joint mission to connect a new generation to the essential American tradition of civic engagement. Through compelling, real-world content for classrooms and beyond, Civics Connected empowers students of all backgrounds with a working knowledge of democracy and the skills needed for creating change.
Another way to celebrate Inventors Day is by joining our action-packed Hands-On STEM event! Join us on February 22 at 1 PM ET to empower the next generation of STEM solution seekers with the skills they need to take on some of the planet’s greatest sustainability challenges.
Our host Brandon Okpalobi, President of the STEM Organization Siyanse, will introduce students to a local or global issue, explore why it’s happening, connect with inspiring people who are working to find solutions, and help students uncover their own potential with exciting hands-on STEM activities.
Appropriate for students of all ages, with activities geared toward students in grades 4-8.
