In the session we will explore online tools and the powerful ways they can be used to engage young students in learning environments and activities. January 5 – The Social Side of the Street Webinar – Using Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace in school could be a distraction… or it could be a new way to communicate with students, parents, and staff. In this webinar we’ll explore how you can use Web2.0 Social Networking tools to share Discovery Education Content while also building a strong school community communication system and enhance professional development.
January 9 – SciCon 2010 – Discovery is providing an online, streaming, day-long professional development opportunity on Science. The TN DEN LC will host a “live” SciCon 2010 event at the Sarah Simpson Technology and Professional Development Center. Registration will begin at 8:30 and the first session starts at 9. The day will conclude around 4 PM.
January 20 – EdTechConnect with Cheryl Lemke Webinar – Web 2.0 Innovation: The Ripple Effect. Design tomorrow’s lessons using the latest social, learning, and neuroscience research on critical thinking, multi-tasking, multimodal learning, collaboration, and engagement.
February 16 – Bend it, Break it, Bust it Loose – 10 Ways DE streaming Can Change the way you teach Webinar – Jim Morrison once encouraged his fan base to “break on through to the other side.” While you won’t get to hear any 10 minute psychedelic riffs during this session you will learn new and innovative ways to combine the resources found inside DE streaming that will challenge and, perhaps change, the way you present information. Join us as we explore new and exciting ways to incorporate media and technology into the classroom with DE streaming.
February 17 – EdTechConnect with Alan Levine Webinar – 50+ Web 2.0 Ways To Tell a Story. This session will cover a basic basic story development that can be created in a web 2.0 tool using images, audio, and/or video. We are using the word “story” in a general sense; it may be a deeply personal one of the digital storytelling variety, or it may be a tale of a travel trip, or a simple multimedia presentation. It consists of more than one type of media (images + text, audio + images, etc) that are assembled on the web, and can be linked to or embedded into other web sites.
